More detail on this person: Gene G. Cowles Gene G. Cowles, another member of "The Greatest Generation", was welcomed into Heaven on November 12, 2013. He was born in Gosper County, Nebraska, during a blizzard on January 2, 1923, to S.C. and Ada J. Cowles. He led an honorable life for 90 years and served as a pilot in 3 wars: WWII, Korea & Vietnam, flying C130's & C47's. He was an Air Force ROTC Instructor at Texas A&M from 1954 to 1958 and later at NTSU from 1964 to 1968. He served 32 years in the Air Force, retired in 1975, and taught 6th grade math at Newton Rayzor for ten years. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Martha Kirkbride Cowles, and 4 daughters: Jeanie & Bill Dudley of Weimar, TX, Jackie & Tom Binder of Muenster, TX, Jody & Wade Word of Denton, TX, and Jennifer & Kelly Pike of Roanoke, TX, 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The memorial service for Gene will be at DeBerry Funeral Chapel on Friday, November 15, 2013 at 10:00 am. A private family service will follow later that day.
