More detail on this person: LTC Thomas (Tom) R. Curtin (RET), 88, of Louisville passed away peacefully on March 12, 2024, at Baptist East Hospital, Louisville surrounded by loved ones. Tom will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, practical jokes, and his "grampisms". He was a passionate reader and loved a good cigar. He was born in Corning, New York, the only child of the late Paul Rogers Curtin and Margaret Lillian Coyle Curtin. Following graduation from Alfred University, Tom married the love of his life, Marilyn Gadiosh. They spent over 46 years together until Marilyn's untimely death in 2005. They were members of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Tom was a career officer in the United States Army and proud member of Alpha Troop, 2nd of the 17th Air Cavalry, 101st Airborne Division. He served two tours in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot. Tom was awarded many medals and quietly prized his Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He retired after 21 years of defending and protecting a country he fiercely loved. Tom is survived by his children, Peggy Curtin, Patricia Pate (Don), Liz Curtin, Tom Curtin, and Kelley Gravenkamp (Eric). He has four beloved grandchildren: Connor Curtin, Eli Curtin, Jacob Gravenkamp and Spencer Gravenkamp. Visitation will be at Ratterman Funeral Home - East Louisville (12900 Shelbyville Road) on Saturday, March 16, 2024 from 11:00am to 1:00 pm. Funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm with burial to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery. Memorial gifts in the form of contributions may be made to the Disabled Veterans Organization (321 West Main Street, Rm 322 Louisville, KY 40202-6200). Services in the care of Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home, East Louisville (12900 Shelbyville Road).
