More detail on this person: ROBERT GORDON CARLSTRAND, 51, AVIATION EXEC, EX-MARINE PILOT Robert Gordon Carlstrand, 51, a member of the international aviation business community and a former Marine Corps pilot, was vice president of trading operations in the Asia-Pacific region for AAR International Singapore. A former resident of St. Charles and for the last six months of Singapore, he died in his apartment there Thursday AAR Corp., based in Elk Grove Village, is in the aviation aftermarket. It supplies parts, including engines, as well as services for planes that are flying, rather than new ones. He dealt with airlines and air cargo carriers in the Far East. "He was a good part of this company," Lee Haines, a co-worker, said. "He was very dedicated and enthusiastic about what he did. He had an excellent relationship with the company's customers because he came through for them. He ran a very efficient operation." Mr. Carlstrand joined AAR in 1977. He was vice president and then senior vice president of several of its divisions, becoming senior vice president of trading operations in April of this year. After graduating in 1968 from Southern Illinois University, he joined the Marine Corps and became a pilot. He flew many helicopter missions in Vietnam during 1970 and 1971 and was highly decorated for his actions. He left the service in 1973 but continued in the USMC Reserves, attaining the rank of colonel. Survivors include his wife, Janice; two daughters, Kristin and Erin; his mother, Betty; a sister; and two brothers. Visitation, followed by a memorial service, will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday in Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E. Main St., St. Charles
