More detail on this person: JESSE CHAPMAN JR. NEWPORT NEWS - Retired Army Lt. Col. Jesse Lee Roy Chapman Jr., 51, a Peninsula resident for eight years, died Tuesday, Sept. 8. A Vietnam veteran who received a Purple Heart, he retired in 1984 after 20 years in the Army. An Oklahoma City native, Mr. Chapman was center director and history professor at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Hampton. He was a member of the Civil War Reenactors Association and the Merry Mixers Square Dance Club. Mr. Chapman received degrees from the University of Oklahoma, Brigham Young University, Old Dominion University and the College of William and Mary. Mr. Chapman was a member of Temple Sinai. Survived by his wife, Jeanette B. Chapman; four daughters, Anjanette, Vonda, Jodi and Janesse; four sons, David, Mark, Aaron and Jared; his mother, Iona B. Chapman of Moore, Okla.; and a sister, Betty J. Pence of Noble, Okla. Burial was Thursday in Arlington National Cemetery with military honors.
