Cooney, 49, of Greenfield died Dec. 8, 1999, at Community Hospital East in Indianapolis. He was born May 8, 1950, in Indianapolis. He had been employed as a sergeant/technician with the Greenfield Police Department for 25 years and was a former flight instructor at Pope Field in Greenfield. He had served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a helicopter pilot and had served many years in the Army Reserve in Shelbyville. He attended Curry's Chapel United Methodist Church in Greenfield. Survivors include his mother, Mary (Cottey) Warner of Greenfield; father Jack C. Cooney of Connersville; wife Maria Cristina (Bedoya) Cooney, whom he married May 24, 1997; sister Carol S. Burelison of Richmond; and stepmother Lexie Cooney. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Pasco Mortuary in Greenfield with the Rev. Carol Wiley officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in Greenfield. Friends may call from 5 - 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
