Gary served in Vietnam as helicopter pilot attached to Helicopter Attack (Light) Squadron Three, HA(L)-3, 1969-1970, where he was awarded 1 Individual Action Air Medal; 2 Strike/Flight Air Medals; 2 Navy Commendation Medals w/Combat V; 2 Navy Achievement Medals, one with Combat V; Presidential Unit Citation; Vietnam Service Medal w/3 Bronze Stars; Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation; Vietnam Civil Actions Unit Citation; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and other awards.
