More detail on this person: Carle Dunn SPARTANBURG -- Carle Eugene Dunn, age 69, husband of Jean Hightower Dunn, died Tuesday evening, January 1, 2008. Born in Sparkman, Arkansas on July 7, 1938 to the late William C. and Dolly Knight Dunn, he was a graduate of Wofford College and a Retired Colonel with the United States Army. Colonel Dunn's distinguished career included two tours in Vietnam and two tours in Korea. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, ten Bronze Star Medals, twenty Meritorious Service Medals, fifteen Air Medals with Valor, ten Army Commendation Medals, and the National Defense Service Medal. While serving in Vietnam, Colonel Dunn was awarded five Vietnam Service Medals and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was also presented with the Expert Rifle M16 Medal and the Expert Pistol 45 Caliber Medal. In addition to his wife of 48 years, he is survived by a daughter, Susan Elizabeth Dunn Campbell and husband Rodney of Zwolle, Louisiana; a son, Stephen Carle Dunn and wife Nancy of Camden, North Carolina; a step-brother, J. D. Langley; four grandchildren, Jennifer L. Dunn, Michael Carle Dunn, Maegan Elizabeth Santos, and Christopher W. Campbell; and three great-grandchildren, Keaton Erwin-Campbell, Cole A. Santos, and Mason W. Santos. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Road, Greenville, SC 29315.
