More detail on this person: Edgar L. Drewry SPRING LAKE - Edgar Llewellyn "Lew" Drewry, 58, of Spring Lake, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Fayetteville. A native of Norfolk, Va., Lew was preceded in death by his father, Bill Drewry, and a brother, Billy Drewry. He was a graduate of Granby High School in Norfolk, Va., and continued his education at Rowan Technical Institute in Salisbury, Albany State University in Albany, Ga., and Averett College in Danville, Va. Lew was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Vietnam War, where he was a helicopter pilot, chief warrant officer 2nd class, and a member of the 68th Assault Helicopter Company, "The Top Tigers." He received many honors during his time in service, including the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Bronze Star, Air Medal with 29 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Bronze Star Medal. He was employed with Mountaire Farms in Lumber Bridge as the safety manager. He was a member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed traveling, sailing and golfing. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. A memorial service will be held at noon Wednesday at O'Quinn-Peebles Chapel of Lillington with the Rev. F. Torrance Osgood officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, prior to the service at the funeral home, and at other times at his home. He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Kathy Drewry; children, Jennifer Drewry of West Allis, Wis., and Kristen, Ariel and Alec Drewry, all of Spring Lake; mother, Elva Drewry of Norfolk, Va.; grandchildren, Kylie Korpela and Jackson Drewry; brother, Richard Drewry, wife Cathy and son Jared of Norfolk, Va.; sister-in-law, Anne Taylor and her husband Vernon of Jefferson; special friends, Crystal Roberts, Stan and Nina Atkins, Hank and Lee Banff; and pets, Oscar, Tammy, Emmie and Lily, and in loving memory, Sashun. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society 8300 Health Park, Suite 10, Raleigh, NC 27615.
