(Dick) Damron, 69, of Kingsland, died Friday, September 17, 2004, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. A native of Woodriver, ILL, he had lived in Hilton Head Island, SC for eight years before moving to Jacksonville, FL where he lived for sixteen years, then on to retire in Kingsland, GA where he has resided for the past two years. Mr. Damron was a graduate of the University of Nebraska. He had a distinguished twenty-two year career in the U.S. Army, serving in Korea and two tours in Viet Nam as an Army Aviator, retiring at the rank of Major in 1975. Mr. Damron was the first Security Director for the Sea Pines Plantation on Hilton Head Island during which time he organized a high ranked outstanding department of services among top private communities across the country. He was directly involved in establishing the necessary security functions and programs for the Heritage Golf Classic at Hilton Head. He then moved to Jacksonville, FL where he work ed for the State of Florida in the Department of Family and Children Services and eventually retired as Asst. Superintendent of the Duval County Regional Juvenile Detention Center. Mr.Damron was preceded in death by his father, David, mother Septa, brother William, and two sons, Roger and Michael. Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Tomi Damron of Kingsland, GA; four sons, Donald Damron of Valdosta, GA, Mark Damron, Tony (Sandy) Damron and Lance Damron all of Jacksonville, FL; daughter, Christy McMichael of Jacksonville, FL; 2 brothers, David Damron of Trenton, KY and Kenneth Damron of Colleyville, TX; 3 granddaughters, Andrea, Bailey and Taylor. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 21st, at 11:00 a.m. at Victory Baptist Church , 101 Miller St. in St. Marys, GA with Rev. Tony Barber officiating. Burial to follow at Oak Grove Cemetery with full Military honors. The family will receive friends, Monday, September 20th, at Allison Memorial Chapel, 10141 Colerain Road, St. Marys, GA, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Pallbearers: Mitch Eby, Willy Ridenour, Terry Poirier, Ed Funston, Al Taylor and Jack Hus band. Allison Memorial Chapel of St. Marys is in charge of arrangements.
