More detail on this person: Gary E. Davis, 68, passed away on 16 January 2013 at his daughter's home in Madison, AL. He was born on 25 July, 1944 in Lake City, Iowa to Ralph E. and Irene L. (Trotter) Davis.

Gary grew up in Lake City where he graduated from Lake City High school in 1962. He eventually joined the Army in 1968 and served over 21 years as a helicopter pilot and instructor with numerous tours in Vietnam where he was awarded 9 Air Medals and Vietnam Campaign Medals. Other service awards include the Meritorious Service Medal and Master Aviator Badge. He retired from the military as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 in 1990.

Gary was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church, VFW Post 1899, American Legion, and the Vietnam Helicopter Pilot Association (VHPA). He enjoyed travelling, driving his tractors, visiting friends, tinkering with technology, and helping others.

Gary was preceded in death by his Father Ralph, Mother Irene, brother Darwin, and sister LaDon,

Gary is survived by his daughters and their spouses Shelly and Leonard Zeigler of Rincon, GA., Lisa and Jim Scala of Madison, AL; grandchildren Brad Zeigler, Kristy Zeigler, Tyler Zeigler, Nicholas Scala, Rachel Scala, and Kristen Scala; step-grandson, Mason Nichols; great-grandchild Baylee Zeigler; brothers Dennis and Rick.

A visitation will be held at Lampe Funeral Home 418 N Hancock St, Lake City from 4:00-7:00PM on 22 January 2013 with family present from 5:00-6:00PM. A memorial service will be held at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 720 East Main in Lake City, IA 51449 at 10:30AM on 23 January 2013. Burial will follow at Lake City Cemetery with military honors provided by the Lake City American Legion Post #31 and the Lake City VFW Post #1899.
