More detail on this person: Roy Gilmore "Bud" Dowdy Jr. Mr. Roy Gilmore "Bud" Dowdy Jr. of Geneva, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2023, in Dothan, Alabama at the age of 82. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 8, 2023, at 1 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Geneva with the Rev. Tony Rosetta officiating and burial to follow in the Friendship Community Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be held Saturday at the Church beginning at 11 a.m., and continuing until service time. Roy "Bud" was born December 12, 1940 in Danville, Virginia to the late Roy Gilmore Dowdy Sr and Virginia Margaret Bond Dowdy. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He proudly served his country for 12 years in the US Army. His distinguished service included two tours in Vietnam and multiple medals for his outstanding courage, highly professional flying skills, and a devotion to duty that reflected great credit upon himself. Bud retired after 36 years as President of the Citizens Bank of Geneva in 2012. Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Virginia Dowdy; and one daughter; Leigh Dowdy Rea. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lucy Weeks Dowdy of Geneva, Alabama; one daughter; Rebecca Dowdy of Auburn, Alabama; one granddaughter; Ellie Rea of Geneva, Alabama; and son-in-law; David Rea (Anissa) of Geneva, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to First United Methodist Church in Geneva in his memory.
