More detail on this person: Charles Paul Damerow of Blanco, Texas, age 80, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2024. He was a beloved husband, dad, and grandpa who proudly served in the US military. Chuck was born on September 30, 1943 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Lester Damerow and Alice (Wilke) Damerow. He had 3 brothers who preceded him in death: Gordon [Jen] Hanneman, Don [Sharon] Hanneman, and Jim Damerow. He had one sister, Bonnie (Damerow) Bochinski of Oshkosh, Wisconsin that is still living. He had two children that admired and loved him dearly: Dan [Renee]Damerow from Anaheim, California, and Debbie (Damerow) Joles of Chattanooga, Tennessee. He also had two step kids that he treated as his own: Brian Wing (deceased) and Lindsay [Phong] Wing. He leaves behind 5 grandchildren: Jarrett Joles, 25, of Bristol, Tennessee, Regan Joles, 19, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Autumn Wing, 9, of Canyon Lake, Texas, Liem Wing-Vo, 3, and Kaylee Wing-Vo, 16 months, of Antelope, California. Chuck is survived by his wife, Jill Damerow, who took such loving care of him as his health deteriorated over the last few years. They shared many wonderful years together in California and then Texas, where they retired on their 10-acre ranch in Blanco. They both shared a love of hunting and fishing. They enjoyed many hunting, fishing, and Cabo adventures together over the years. Chuck was a celebrated Huey helicopter pilot in the US Army. He bravely served in the 187th Assault Helicopter Company in Vietnam and was honored to serve his country for over 20 years. He retired a Veteran in 1984 as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 and then went on to work as a helicopter pilot in the civilian world at Alaska Helicopters, Horizon Helicopters, San Jaquin Helicopters and finally the Kern County Fire department where he did heavy lifting, agricultural flying and fighting forest fires. A private ceremony for the immediate family will be hosted at Crofts & Crow Funeral home on January 12. Following, a celebration of life with full military honors will take place Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 1:00 PM at 1367 Rolling Hills, Blanco, TX 78606. In lieu of flowers, the family will graciously accept donations to the 187th Assault Helicopter Company.
