More detail on this person: JAMES DERCK WA United States James Andrew Derck Aug. 23, 1947 - Oct. 31, 2010 After a long and valiant fight James [Jimmy] Derck lost his final battle October 31, 2010. Jim lived his life according to his core beliefs of duty, honor, and service. He served as an Army helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War and in Korea. Jim was awarded many medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart. After retirement he became a National Service Officer in the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Jim advocated for his fellow veterans as a lobbyist. Jim is survived by his wife Joanie Steckel, his four children, Kathy Perry, Lori Tourney, Jim Straling and Kim Straling, and his four grandchildren, Emily, Dawson, Daniel and Kaylee. He will be missed by his family, friends and fellow veterans. A viewing will be held at Columbia Funeral Home, 4567 Rainier Avenue S, Seattle, WA on Thursday, November 4, 2010 from 4:00-7:00 pm. Graveside services will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA on Friday, November 5, 2010 at 1:30 pm.
