More detail on this person: Thomas Lee Douthitt, age 68, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on February 1, 2015. He was born in Pittsburgh, KS on March 17, 1947. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Lee Douthitt and granddaughter Michelle Douthitt. Tom graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1965 and Park University with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Social Work. He was honored to serve his country in the United States Army with 19 years of active duty and 16 years of Civil Service. He served in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot and retired from active service in 2001 as a Lt Colonel. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather; Tom is survived by Jackie, his wife, of 48 years, sons, Mike and Joe Douthitt and daughters Patti Douthitt, Susan Sotomayor, Julie Strick, 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, brother Bob Douthitt and sister Jan Hubbard, and his loyal dog "King". Tom will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held from 11:30am-7:00pm on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Davis Funeral Home. Funeral church services will be held at 9:30 am on Friday, February 6, 2015, at Leavenworth Baptist Church. A military graveside ceremony will follow at the Leavenworth National Cemetery. Please join us for lunch at the Leavenworth Baptist Church following the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, to continue research for a cure of this debilitating disease, the family or charity of your choosing.
