More detail on this person: George Thomas Dodd, 77, of Fredericksburg, Virginia passed away on Monday, April 3, 2023 at his residence, subsequent to a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer in mid-January. George was born in Wilmar, California, but grew up in Alhambra, CA and graduated from Alhambra High School. After attending East Los Angeles College for a year, he joined the US Army and served for almost 6 years as a helicopter pilot with tours in Vietnam and Germany, attaining the rank of CW2. He was medically retired following a gunshot wound to the left ankle which almost cost him his life. He was a military man and the order and discipline he learned there stayed with him the rest of his life. After his military service he continued his aviation career, earning his A&P rating after completing an Aviation Maintenance course and flying helicopters for the Pacific tuna fleet out of San Diego, oil and gas exploration in Arizona, Texas and Montana, and offshore oilfield service from Lafayette, Louisiana. Finally he worked as a machinist until his retirement. He was a man of strong convictions and beliefs that guided him through life. He had a strong faith in God which gave him great peace and joy through the ups and downs in life. He was a man of multiple knowledge streams and sharpened his mind by maintaining his technical acumen. He was respected for his perseverance and endurance. He had an amazing heart and was generous with what he had. He loved his family, enjoyed spending time and talking with his wife and six children and he especially enjoyed reading to his grandchildren, teaching them practical skills and singing them to sleep! Survivors include his wife of almost 51 years, Rosalyn K. Dodd; his children, Matthew (Jennifer), Jennie (Michael), Joy, Andrew (Lindsey), and Daniel (Shandeigh); nineteen grandchildren Marcus (24), Rebecca (22), Collin (20), Connor (18), Kaitlyn (18), Annika (16), Madeline (16), McKenna (15), Abigail (14), Abishai (9), Lucienne (9), Axel (7), Finn (7), Asher (5), Bennett (4), Sophia (3), Annalise (2), Vivienne (1) and Baby Boy Gaudet due in July; and siblings Joseph Dodd and Arthur Dodd. He was preceded in death by his son, Nathan Dodd; brother Wesley Dodd; and his parents, Raymond and Gladys Dodd. We will celebrate George's life at 12 p.m. on Monday, April 10, 2023 at Covenant Funeral Service, 1310 Courthouse Road, Stafford, VA 22554. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home chapel. (The service will be live-streamed. Link will be located below.) A luncheon will follow the service at the same location. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Since George and his wife recently moved to Virginia from Louisiana after 37 years of residence, a memorial service will be held at Living Glory Church, 200 E Butcher Switch Rd, Lafayette, LA 70507 on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 11am.
