Elbert "Bert" Elliott Drane, 85, a retired lieutenant colonel, U.S. Army Aviation, passed away
Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007. Bert was born July 1, 1922, in Harrisburg, Mo., to Emmitt Drane and Irene
Elliott Drane, the youngest of nine children. He married Virginia "Ginger" Dean Robinson in 1944.
Bert retired from the U.S. Army in 1968, with 26 years of service. He was a pioneer in Army Aviation
and a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam, flying fixed wing, helicopter and jet aircraft. He
received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal and Legion of Merit. He was a member of the
Army Aviation Board.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Moss of Chico, on Feb. 7, 2005; and all his
siblings.
Survivors: Children, Steve Drane of Houston and Joni Beckner of Temecula, Calif.
Funeral: 9:30 a.m. Thursday, 1/3/08 in Greenwood Chapel. Entombment: Greenwood Mausoleum.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, 1/2/08 at Greenwood Funeral Home, Fort Worth, TX.
