He was born to Walter J. and Marie R. Dowd in Brooklyn, NY. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Friendly Sons of the Shillelaghs, Founder of the Dad's Club of Ramstein AFB, Germany, member of the board for the Handicapped Boy Scouts of NY, member of Benevolent Paternal Order of Elks, Knights of Columbus and the Futures and Options for Kids. He attended Holy Cross University and graduated with a B.A. in Accounting. He was a retired Career Officer of the US Air Force, and a decorated Vietnam War Veteran. He was the founder of Dowd and Co. in New York City and was a member of both the New York Stock Exchange and the New York Futures Exchange for 25 years. He was also the founding father of the Dublin Financial Exchange in Ireland. His love for family and friends was only matched by his love of country and ancestry. He was predeceased by his wife Anne L. Dowd, a son Kevin W. Dowd, his parents. Surviving are his 5 children, a sister, and 11 loving grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 7 and Wednesday, March 8, at the Waitt-Nelms Funeral Home, 501 Hwy 79, Morganville, from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 9, at 10 AM, in the St. Gabriel's Church. Interment follow in the St. Gabriel's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donation information may be found at
