More detail on this person: Robert E. Dowdy retired from the USAF as a Major. From the "PJ's In Vietnam" website, Major Dowdy was stationed with both Det. 1 & Det. 2 of the 37th ARRS. He was the HH-3E (Call sign "Jolly Green 53") pilot from Det. 2, 37th ARRS that rescued F-105D (Call sign "Wolf 02") pilot Lt. Col. William L. Janssen, on 16 June 1967, after he ejected from his damaged aircraft after he nursed it across the border into Thailand. He was also the pilot on another HH-3E while with Det. 1, 37th ARRS that rescued F-105D (Call sign "Marlin 04") Capt. John W. Bischoff, on 03 Aug. 1967, after he ejected from his aircraft that had been involved in a mid-air collision with two other F-105's as they were coming off a tanker over Laos. Capt. Bischoff died before he could be delivered to a hospital.
