More detail on this person: Mr. Floyd A. Durham, 86, of Coral Gables, FL, formerly of Kent, OH, passed away at Doctor's Hospital in Coral Gables Saturday, February 12, 2022. He was born in Akron, OH, January 24, 1936, to the late Floyd S. and Reva Eagan Durham. Mr. Durham was a graduate of Kent State University High School and the University of Miami. Mr. Durham served in the U.S Air Force, flying jets and helicopter rescue flights. He served one year in Vietnam. He continued his love for flying by working with United Airlines where he retired as pilot after 28 years of service. Mr. Durham enjoyed life and found many interests along the way, collecting antique cars, various model trains, and racing sail boats. He sang nationally with a barbershop quartet and was a member of SPEBSQSA. Mr. Durham was a member of the Quiet Birdmen, and Coral Reef Yacht Club. He and his wife were members of the Granada Presbyterian Church. He will be fondly remembered by his loving wife of 61 years, Carolyn Jean York Durham; his son Steven Durham; his sister Caryl Durham Mosier; his brother, Larry Durham; sister-in-law, Frances York Reid; and his nurse, Michele Edinger. In addition to his parents, Mr. Durham was preceded in death by a son, Floyd Scott Durham. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, February 20, 2022, at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy with Rev. Griff Gatewood officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery with full military honors by the VFW Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mt. Airy and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
