More detail on this person: John DOWLESS was born in Fayetteville, NC on May 18, 1927. He was proceeded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and his first wife Mary Virginia with whom he had his surviving children: Kathy, Deborah, John Jr., David, Tom, and Jenna. He is also survived by his wife, Margaret, and his grandchildren: Danny Lyons, and Audra and Layton Dowless, and great grandchildren Dustin and James Wardrup. John served as a Naval Corpsman during World War II. At war's end, he returned to North Carolina where he attended Wake Forest. Upon graduation, he received a direct commission in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army. While serving in the U.S. Army he earned a Master's Degree in Hospital Administration from Baylor University. During the Korean War, John was a MED-EVAC helicopter pilot and during the Vietnam War, he was a hospital administrator. After retiring from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel, John worked as a Hospital Consultant for the State of Florida until he retired in 1989. He loved his family and was a great father, husband, and friend to those he loved. John will be missed by his loved ones. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Hardage-Giddens Town and Country Funeral Home located at 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jax.
