Dewhirst COLLEYVILLE -- On April 14, 2018, Timothy Paul Dewhirst, flew from his earthly home to his heavenly home, escaping the devastating disease, glioblastoma multiforme. Fully restored, he can worship his Heavenly Father in words and song once again. SERVICE: A service celebrating Tim's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 11, at St. Timothy Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 3001 Forest Ridge Drive, Bedford, TX 76021. His burial will take place at 2:30 p.m. at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Cumberland Presbyterian Children's Home, P. O. Drawer G, Denton, Texas 76202. Born January 4, 1947 to Edwin McKendree Dewhirst and Miriam Jean Dunlap Dewhirst, Tim was the oldest of 7 children. Tim attended Whitworth College in Spokane, Wash., where he met Robin Lee Farris. The couple married in 1969. Tim joined the Navy as an Aviation Officer Candidate. He was commissioned as an ensign, received his wings, and trained as a helicopter pilot. Assigned to Helicopter Combat Support-7 he served in Vietnam, where he earned, among other commendations, the Distinguished Flying Cross for "Heroism in Aerial Flight on November 20, 1972," for rescuing two downed Air Force pilots. Tim also served during Desert Storm. He retired at the rank of Captain after over twenty years of service. Tim answered God's call to ministry later in life. Tim was ordained as a minister and served a congregation at Newberry Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Tim was also an accomplished woodworker and had great interest in community theater, both on and off stage. The father of 6 children, Tim considered them his greatest blessings, gifts from God. SURVIVORS: Tim leaves behind his wife of nearly 49 years, Robin; his children, daughter, Sarah Dewhirst and wife, Kirsta Herder, son, Adam Dewhirst and wife, Sally, daughter, Hannah Brooks and husband, Jono, daughter, Rebekah Markeson and husband, Keith, daughter, Elizabeth Dewhirst, and son, Matthew Dewhirst; his grandchildren, Marsley Herder, Abigail, Mark and Rachel Dewhirst, Tyler, Grace and Eleanor Brooks; his six sisters, Miriam Meyer, Carolyn Nelson, Linda Ross, Beverly Reed, Becky Verrinder and Donna Strango; and numerous nieces and nephews.
