Born in Goshen, IN in 1932, Jerry attended Goshen High School. He graduated with a business degree from Ball State University, where he met his wife of 72 years, Rosamae (Rosie) Sheets.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and devoted Christian. Jerry was a lifelong sports fan and avid golfer.
Jerry's Air Force career began in 1954. He served as a weapons controller and flight instructor. He flew a variety of aircraft from H-19 helicopters to T-39 jets. , In Vietnam Jerry flew the "Huey" helicopter in the 20th Special Operations squadron, the Green Hornets from 1968 to 1969. Jerry was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his bravery.
After retiring from the Air Force as a Lt. Col. in 1974, Jerry continued to fly and flight instruct. He was a flight instructor at the Air Force Academy Aero Club where he taught Academy cadets. Jerry continued to be a flight instructor in the private sector, training pilots to fly with an instrument rating.
He loved to travel the world, ski and play golf. Jerry served in several service organizations.
Jerry leaves behind Rosamae, three children, seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
