More detail on this person: Harold, Jr. EARWOOD Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The (GA) - Monday, January 23, 2012 EARWOOD, Harold, Jr. LTC Harold Jackson Earwood Jr. LTC Harold Jackson Earwood Jr. (Retired) of Marietta, Georgia died Saturday, January 21, 2012 after a fight against heart disease. Born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, August 14, 1933 to Harold and Charlotte Earwood, Jack was a graduate of the Marietta High School class of 1951 along with earning a BS and MS from Troy University. Jack worked at Lockheed in Marietta, Georgia while attending Georgia Institute of Technology out of high school. He was a member of the Georgia Air Reserve and earned a commission in the U.S. Army. He initially started in armor then became an aviator flying the Huey and Cobra During 3 tours in Vietnam along with being a flight instructor at the Army's Aviation Center in Ft. Rucker, Alabama. Jack was on the team which was instrumental in the development of the U.S. Army's 1st Air Calvary. He retired after 27 years of service. Jack worked 12 years in the civil service after retiring from the Army. Jack was awarded the Silver Star w/1 oak leaf cluster, the distinguished flying cross, the bronze star medal w/2 oak leaf cluster along with dozens of other awards and distinctions. Jack enjoyed riding motor cycles, running, lifting weights, spending time with his wife and family and became an avid ham radio operator. He participated in the Peachtree Road Race 10 times which he enjoyed a great deal. Jack always enjoyed and loved animals especially his favorite cat, Turk. Jack is preceded in death by his wife, Alice Dean Bishop Earwood and is survived by his son's family of Marietta, Georgia: John Robert Earwood, Sherry Anne Earwood, Allison Anne Nichols and Rachel Dean Earwood. His daughter of Dallas, Georgia: Kelly Lea Earwood. He is also survived by his daughter's family of Decatur, Georgia: Crystal Anne Earwood, William Decker, Jack Henry Decker and Alice Edan Earwood. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 25 at 11:00 a.m. at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta. Interment will be in Cheatham Hill Park Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 24 at 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cobb County Humane Society.
