Edwards, age 65, passed away on Saturday,
January 10, 2008, at Emory Hospital in Atlanta.
Mr. Edwards was born on January 16, 1943, in
Starke, FL. He grew up in Jacksonville, FL and was
a graduate of Landon High School in 1962. He
earned a BS degree in Poultry Science from the
University of Florida in Gainesville, FL in 1978.
In 1967 he joined the U.S. Army as a First
Lieutenant in the Signal Corps and soon entered
flight school. As a helicopter pilot, he served in
Vietnam from June of 1969 to June of 1970. He
later flew for both the Georgia National Guard and
the Governor's Drug Task Force. Lee retired from
the U.S. Army and the Florida and Georgia National
Guards with 30 years of combined service.
In civilian life, he worked as the Southeast
Regional Salesman for Biomune, Inc., a vaccine
company based in Lenexa, Kansas. He retired from
Biomune after 15 years.
Mr. Edwards was a member of the First United
Methodist Church, La-Grange and the Adult
Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was also a
member of the LaGrange Lions Club. As a young
man, Lee found great enjoyment in aviation. In his
later years, he was a handyman and an avid
fisherman.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Edwards; his son,
Jason and his wife, Laura of Decatur; a daughter,
Lori Breitenfeld and her husband, Scott, and their
children, Zachary and Carley, all of Jacksonville,
FL; his mother, Virginia von Spreckelsen; a
sister, Gayle Kirkland and her children, Gary and
Cynthia; a father-in-law, Charles Dubyak, Sr.; a
brother-in-law, Preston Dubyak and his wife Cha,
and his son, Michael; a brother-in-law, Charles
Dubyak and his wife, Jeanette, and their sons,
Travis, Justin, Jeremy and his wife, Ashley.
Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by his father,
Charles Albert von Spreckelsen; a sister, Lynn von
Spreckelsen; his mother-in-law, Gloease Dubyak;
and a niece, Kathy Jan Dubyak.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m.
Wednesday, January 14, 2008 at the First United
Methodist Church in LaGrange.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a
donation be made to either the First United
Methodist Church, Community Care Fund, or to a
charity of your choice.

For many years he flew in a sister unit, the 48th
Infantry BDE, Georgia National Guard.
His death was reported to me by BG (ret) Don
Davis, himself a r/w aviator in RVN.
Coincidentally and sadly, Lee's home experienced a
major fire a day or two before he died, but I
don't think Lee was ever made aware of that fact.
