More detail on this person: Two dead in apparent murder, suicide Wednesday Posted Sep 21, 2005 at 12:01 AM Share Stories From Chatter Network By LISE FISHERSun staff writer A Columbia County man killed his sister Monday evening before committing suicide at the home the two shared with their mother, investigators reported. A SWAT Team with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office entered a single-story house at 294 SE Mulberry Lane in south Lake City about 8 p.m. to find Cecil Jackson Elllington, 63, dead in a hallway. They also discovered the body of his sister, Rebecca E. Dupler, 59, in a living room recliner. She had been shot twice in the head. Sheriff Bill Gootee said Tuesday that deputies still are trying to piece together the reason behind the apparent murder and suicide. Ellington had moved into the home with his sister and mother, Dorothy Ellington, 89, because he had health problems, including a heart attack. But officers later learned from other family members that Jack Ellington's health had been deteriorating and he had not gotten along well with his sister. The situation erupted as the three were having supper Monday, Gootee said. Jack Ellington walked out of the room and came back with a handgun, firing at his sister, he said. The siblings' mother, who was not injured, ran from the house to a neighbor's home and called 911, the Sheriff's Office reported. Deputies tried to get Jack Ellington out of the house. "Our hostage negotiator tried repeatedly to make contact via the telephone and a bullhorn, but there was no response," Gootee said. About two hours later, the SWAT Team went inside through an unlocked door in the kitchen area and discovered the bodies. Gootee said investigators will continue questioning family and friends about the shooting. Officers also found what appeared to be a note with writing on it in Jack Ellington's shirt pocket. The note's contents had not been released Tuesday.
