More detail on this person: William W. Elpers ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Commander William "Bill" Wendell Elpers USN (Ret.), 74, passed away June 10, 2009 at his home. Born Oct. 3, 1934 in Hammond, he was the son of Wendell H. and Gladys Dale (Brannon) Elpers. He graduated as class valedictorian from Fort Branch High School, prior to entering the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md., upon appointment in 1952. He graduated and was commissioned ensign on June 1, 1956. He advanced in rank to commander on March 1, 1970. He retired from the US Navy on Sept. 29, 1976. While serving with the Navy, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Combat Action Ribbon and Vietnam Service Medal. Survivors include his wife, the former Jacqueline H. (Thompson) of Germantown, Md.; son, Michael William; and three granddaughters. He will be buried with military honors Aug. 14, 2009 at Arlington National Cemetery.
