More detail on this person: Vincent Raymond Foulkes passed away peacefully on May 17th, 2025 with family by his side in Sammamish, WA. He was 94. Vincent was born on November 19th, 1930 in Vancouver, BC, Canada. He spent his childhood years between Vancouver, BC and Roberts Creek, BC, working jobs in the logging and trucking industries in his early years. He courted and married Yvonne Janssen on January 23rd, 1953 in Vancouver, BC and they were devoted to each other for the rest of their lives. He began to pursue his dream of becoming a pilot by taking flying lessons and earning his private pilot's license. Desiring to make a career in aviation, Vince immigrated to the U.S. in 1959 and, shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He began as an R/W and F/W mechanic before completing Flight School in 1963. Vince served two tours of duty in the Vietnam War: The first in 1965-66 as a UH-1 Huey pilot with the 162nd AHC/1st Aviation Brigade and the second in 1968-69 as a CH-47 Chinook pilot with C Co, 228th ASHB/1st Cavalry Division, earning several medals for his heroism. In between Vietnam tours, Vincent and Yvonne were delighted to welcome a daughter, Michele, in 1967 while stationed at Ft. Rucker, AL. After fighting for his newly adopted country, Vincent pursued and was granted naturalized U.S. citizenship in 1969. Over the course of his 30-year military aviation career, Vincent achieved the rank of CW4 and was awarded the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, two Bronze Star Medals, two Meritorious Service Medals, and 24 Air Medals (2 with V devices) among other decorations. Following his retirement in 1989, he and Yvonne put down roots in Puyallup, WA for the next 30+ years. In April 2022, Vincent participated in a Puget Sound Honor Flight that celebrates veterans with a trip to see the U.S. war memorials in Washington, D.C. Vince was preceded in death in 2019 by his loving wife of 66 years, Yvonne Foulkes. Vince is survived by his devoted daughter Michele (Foulkes) Polley.
