More detail on this person: Michael James Flaherty, 67, of Leesburg, VA died on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at his home. Born on May 2, 1948 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Robert J. and Macel (Barker) Flaherty. He was a graduate of Southern High School who then went on to proudly serve his country in the Vietnam War for the United States Army. He was the recipient of the Air Medal Achievement. He also attended the University of Maryland where he obtained a business degree after which he received his MBA from Southern Methodist University in Texas. He worked for various organizations within the technology industry. He is survived by his children, twins Fiona and Finn Flaherty of Leesburg, VA; a sister, Carolyn Taylor and husband Will of Swanton; a niece, Stacey R. Payne; and two nephews, Samuel C. Bell and Scott Bell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jefferson Jay Flaherty, in 2013. A memorial service will be held in the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Saturday, December 5th at 1 PM with Pastor Matthew A. Paugh officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Vietnam Veterans of American Chapter #172, 17 N Liberty St., Cumberland, MD 21502.
