More detail on this person: John Robert Fleig, 65 of Ames, Iowa John Fleig, Jan. 22, 1947-Aug. 21, 2012 Tribune, The (Ames, IA) - Wednesday, August 22, 2012 John Fleig, 65, of Ames, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012 at Israel Family Hospice House. Memorial services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25th at Adams Funeral Home in Ames. Inurnment will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery. There will be visitation of family and friends 5-7 pm on Friday, Aug. 24th at Adams Funeral Home in Ames. John Robert Fleig was born Jan. 22, 1947 to Richard and Mary (Blount) Fleig in Ames. He served in the United States Army during the Viet Nam War, was appointed a warrant officer in 1968, and piloted a Medevac helicopter. He worked in the office of systems planning for the Iowa DOT. John was a member of the American Legion Post 37, was an avid golfer, Iowa State Cyclone sports fan, and was proud of the fact that he, like his father, enjoyed being a lifeguard in his youth. John and his wife, Connie traveled every year to Mexico, staying for a month. He was an animal lover, having many dogs and cats during his lifetime. John is survived by his wife, Connie Fleig, of Ames; his daughter, Haley Kauffman, of Ames; two sisters, Jean (Tom) Carroll and Barb Fleig; two nieces, Katy (Chad) Greeley and Anne Carroll; his nephew, Tom (Amie) Carroll; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. John was a devoted and loving father.
