More detail on this person: FREUDENBERGER, HENRY A. "SONNY" "HANK", 76, went home to the loving arms of his heavenly father on May 1, 2014 after a long and courageous battle with colon cancer. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Hank was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, (Pepa), and great grandfather. Besides family, his greatest love was his service to his country. He proudly served for 25 years in the United States Army, where he was an officer, pilot and decorated Vietnam War veteran. He served two tours in Vietnam, was shot down, wounded and awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Upon retiring from the military, he finished his career with the Jefferson County Board of Education as the Director of Engineering. He was a devoted Christian and a beloved member of Highland Park First Baptist Church. He was a proud alumnus of the University of Louisville and an avid Cardinal fan. Hank loved golf and he accomplished a rare feat of having two holes in one. He loved to travel and he and his beautiful wife loved visiting the state parks of Kentucky. He is survived by Jan his loving wife of 56 years; his daughter, Karen; sons, Keith (Tammie), Dennis (Cheryl), Chris (Lisa); grandchildren, Aubrey, Ryan, Jennalee, Riley, Heather, Blake, Austin, Andrea, Cory, Kristin; and seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Nellijean Kaelin, Rita Whitman, Patsy Brown; and brother, Bobby Freudenberger. His funeral service will be 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Owen Funeral Home - Jeffersontown, 9318 Taylorsville Road, with entombment in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be 12-8 p.m. Monday and after 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Children of Fallen Soldier Relief Fund (CFSRF), P.O. Box 1099, Temple Hills, MD 20757.
