Funk FAYETTEVILLE - Retired Chief Warrant Officer 4 Frederick Gayle Funk, 76, of Fayetteville, passed away Monday, May 16, 2011, in Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Fayetteville. He was born July 17, 1934, in Calcasleu Parrish, La. Mr. Funk was a member of the Army and served his country honorably for 30 years as a member of the Special Forces and for 19 years as a Department of the Army civilian, serving in Special Operations aviation. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Gray Funk; and his brother, William Maurice "Bill" Funk. He is survived by two sons, Col. Frederick Hugh Funk and wife Penne of Dripping Springs, Texas, and Col. Chris Funk and wife Lori of Fayetteville; a brother, James Funk of Welch, La.; three sisters, Teet Trahan, Lana Manino and Oma Foy Hofstrom; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 22, 2011, at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home on Ramsey Street in Fayetteville. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2011, in Rogers and Breece Funeral Home chapel. He will be laid to rest in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake, with the rendering of full military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made out to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, P.O. Box 13483, Tampa, FL 33629. Services entrusted to Rogers and Breece Funeral Home of Fayetteville.
