More detail on this person: PETER MICHAEL FARRIS April 16, 1946 ~ April 27, 2010 Peter Michael Farris, 64, died April 27, 2010, at Alaska Regional Hospital due to complications from prostate cancer. A celebration of his life will be from 6-9 p.m. May 15 at O'Malley's on the Green, 3651 O'Malley Road. No flowers, please. He was born April 16, 1946, in Tacoma, Wash., to Will and Mary Farris. His father was a Marine and moved the family to various locations in the states before he retired in Hawaii. Pete attended the University of Idaho in Moscow on a military scholarship and went into the Marine Corps. He served two tours in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot and was honorably discharged in 1974 in Hawaii. It was there he met Judy Ann. They were married in 1975. Pete then went to work as a pilot for United Helicopters in Canada. He and Judy spent a year in Ghana, West Africa, when the company had a contract with the World Health Organization and then returned to Hawaii. Pete did some commercial fishing and then secured a job with Era Helicopters in Anchorage in 1980. He spent three years flying in the Bush. David was born in 1982 and in order to be at home more with his son, Pete began his career in real estate in 1983. At the time of his death, he was employed with Dynamic Properties. He had a great love for Alaska and summers spent in Ninilchik. Pete was a friend to everyone. Many people started out as business contacts and wound up being close friends. He had a great sense of humor and would do anything for a friend. Pete loved to fish for salmon and halibut and would give away more than he kept. Pete is survived by his wife of 35 years, Judy Ann; and his son, David; parents, Will and Mary Farris of Kailua, Hawaii; sister, Pam Farris of Honolulu; nephew, Adam Farris-Sullivan; niece, Claire Farris-Sullivan and her husband, Brendan Jackson, of Honolulu. He also leaves an aunt, Becky Barnes; and cousins, Marti and Dave Wilson, Bob and Zumi Barnes, Byron and Julie Barnes, and Bill Barnes and Jason Dugan of Seattle. His brother, David, preceded him in death. Ashes will be scattered in Ninilchik and Kailua. Arrangements have been entrusted to Legacy Funeral Homes, Kehl's Chapel, www.legacyalaska.com.
