More detail on this person: Fred W. Forbey Fred W. Forbey Major Fred Ward Forbey (U.S.A.F. Ret.) age 82 died Monday, November 22, 2010 at his residence in Columbus. Services will be held Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Glenn Miller officiating, burial with full military honors will follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wednesday, November 24, 2010 from 12:00 noon until service time. Mr. Forbey was born on Tuesday, February 28, 1928 in Charleston, MO to the late Fred and Vivian Ward Forbey. Mr. Forbey served in the United States Air Force from May 1, 1953 to February 9, 1970. His career began as a cadet at Malden AFB, Mo in pilot training. In 1968 and 1969 he was a helicopter squadron commander and was a decorated Vietnam Veteran. His tour of duty included Korea, Iceland, and Germany. Stateside he was stationed in Duluth, MN, Sumter SC, Alexandria, LA, Reno, NV. After returning home from Vietnam he as stationed at Columbus Air Force Base, MS where he retired. After his retirement he was a helicopter pilot for several companies including, JJ. Ferguson in Greenwood, MS, an ambulance pilot for Forrest General Hospital, in Hattiesburg, MS, and in 1975 returned to Columbus to fly for Phillips Contracting Company. He also owned and operated Cabana Package Store. Fred loved God, his family and his country. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Jo Forbey and his son Fred W. Forbey Jr. Survivors include: His Wife: Mildred H. Forbey Columbus MS, Two Daughters: Frederica Forbey, Columbus, MS Suzanne F. Bolton (Bobby), Columbus, MS, Step-Daughter: Becky Moore (Clint), Columbus, MS Step-Son: Cecil Lindsey (Marilyn), Columbus, MS, Step-Brother: Frank Underwood (Betty), Oakland, TN, Grandchildren: Gary Richardson, Jr. (Lacey), Great Grandchildren: Michael Richardson Michelle Richardson, Step-Grandchildren: Brent Bolton (Shannon) Erin Bolton Ross Moore. The Pallbearers will be: U.S. Air Force Honor Guard The Honorary Pallbearers will be: Members of the American Legion, V.F.W., and D.A.V.
