More detail on this person: Dickie Lee Fox ALVIN Dickie Lee Fox, age 63, of Alvin, Texas, passed away Monday, January 14, 2008, at the Methodist Hospital, Houston, Texas. Dickie was born on November 22, 1944 in Lubbock, Texas and was a resident of Alvin for 26 years. Dickie grew up in Odessa, TX. From there, he joined the U.S. Navy and served as a hospital corpsman in Vietnam. Pursuing the dream of becoming an aviator, Dickie joined the United States Marine Corps in 1970. He retired as a Major in the Marines in 1982. He went on to obtain his Ph.D. in reading from East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas in 1978. He has worked as a professor ever since. He began his teaching career in Athens, Texas at Henderson County Junior College before accepting a position at Alvin Community College in 1982. Dickie is known for his love of carpentry work and for helping others. He was active in the Alvin community through the Kiwanis Club and any other venue where he could be of service. He was also a member of the Masons, Scottish Right, El Mina Shrine, V.F.W, American Legion, American Association of Naval Hospital Corpsman. He spent time reading with the children in ACC's Lab School and mentoring children at Stevenson Primary. In addition to helping the children, Dickie was always ready to help the teachers and school with any carpentry needs. Many classrooms are furnished with his work and the playground is enhanced with a gazebo he built. His service has been recognized several times. He has twice been named Kiwanian of the Year, he was a George F. Hixson Fellow in the Kiwanis Club, and was honored by the Alvin community when they awarded him 2005 Citizen of the Year. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Susan Fox; mother, Mary Fox of Alvin, Texas, father, Alfred John Fox of Odessa, Texas, his daughter Julie Trumble and husband, Jerry Trumble, Jr. of League City, Texas, son, Richard Fox and wife, Natalie of League City, Texas, sisters, Sandra Jean Freeman of Odessa, Texas, Sue Baker and husband, Gary of Odessa, Texas, brother Johnny Fox and wife, Maribel of Equador, 2 grandchildren, Rebecca Trumble and Catherine Trumble, numerous other relatives and friends. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at Scott Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 17, 2008, at the Houston National Cemetery, with a Memorial Service following at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Scott Family, 1421 East Hwy. 6, Alvin, Texas, 77511. 281-585-1000. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be contributed to the Alvin Community College Kiwanis Nursing Scholarship.
