More detail on this person: I believe Charlie died at Ft Benning, GA. Captain Ford was the class leader of ORWAC 69-30. His class graduated from Flight School at Ft. Rucker, AL on 23 September 1969. I was in that class also. He did not die after tour in Vietnam. He died after Training.

From: Jerry Rhodes at Co-Pilot Killed in Copter Crash Near Ft. Benning FT. BENNING, Ga. (AP) - The copilot was killed and the pilot seriously injured Monday when the UH-1 Army helicopter crashed and burned here. The Army identified the victims as Capt. Charlie J. Ford, the co-pilot, and C.W.O. John M. Mercer of the 197th Aviation Co., 10th Aviation Group, Ft. Benning. Ford's widow lives in Columbus, Ga., his permanent home of record is Live Oak, Fla. Mercer lives in Columbus and is from Baltimore, Md. The Army said the two men, both Vietnam veterans, were on a training mission and had just taken off when their helicopter crashed in heavy woods. 03 NOV 69 CPT Charlie J. Ford [P] CW2 John M. Mercer* [CP] Georgia 197 AVN (10 AVN GP) UH-1 [Need Tail#] A/C crashed and burned in heavy woods during a training mission on Ft Benning. CP died of injuries on 07NOV69.
