More detail on this person: Salem, AL- MAJ David Louis Grieger (USA RET), 71, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Piedmont Midtown Medical in Columbus, GA. David grew up in the Oak Harbor/ Fremont, OH area, son of the late Louis Grieger and Jeri Grieger Hess. He was drafted into the Army in 1966. David attended OCS and was commissioned as an Infantry Officer. After attending Rotary Wing Flight School as a helicopter pilot, he was assigned to the 176th Assault Helicopter Co, Republic of Vietnam as a Platoon Commander. Later he was assigned to the 19th Combat Aviation Bn, Republic of Korea as a Company Commander. Other assignments were Flight Commander at a training station in TX teaching primary helicopter student pilots and Platform Instructor at the Army's Infantry School. Some of the medals he earned were the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, 29 Air Medals one w/"V" devise for Valor, Combat Helicopter Flight w/ 985 combat flying hours, 2 Army Commendations one w/"V" devise for Valor and 2 Purple Hearts. Besides 14 years of Aviation, flying fixed wing and helicopter and accumulated 3000 flight hours and was awarded the Army Senior Aviator Wings, David was a member of the US Parachute Assoc and had 1300 jumps w/ 13 hours of free fall time, received 3 writing awards and was published, trained for and finished 3 marathons(26.2 miles) and was a member of Columbus Track. He created and ran D&G Enterprises - a military novelty store. Earned two degrees - an under grad from Emory Riddle Daytona and an MBA from GA State Atlanta. Also, a member of several military/civic organizations, ROA, VHPA, PH, DAV, VFW, AmLeg, VVnW, VVA and many more. He is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Kay Grieger Walker and husband Paul of TX; grandchildren Brittany husband Brant and Christopher; 4 great-grandchildren; brother Mark Grieger; many friends and family.
