Temple, Texas, after a courageous battle with diabetes and other Agent Orange induced ailments. Al
was born on February 18, 1948, in Lexington, Nebraska, to Trinidad and Sadie Gallardo. Al held B.S.
and M.S. degrees in Aviation Management and Aeronautical Science, respectively, from Embry Riddle
Aeronautical University. Burial information: Fort Bliss National Cemetery, El Paso, TX

He was a graduate of the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center, where he gained
fluency in German. He retired from the U. S. Army, after 20 years of honorable service as a pilot
and as a nuclear weapons specialist, with tours of duty in Germany, Korea, Vietnam, and other
locations. Al distinguished himself for bravery as a pilot in Vietnam and received the Bronze Star,
two Distinguished Flying Crosses, and two Air Medals. He also earned the Army Commendation
Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Vietnam Gallantry Cross. After retiring
from the Army, Al worked as Airport Operations Coordinator at Broward County Airport, Ft.
Lauderdale, Florida, and as Airport Operations Manager at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
He is survived by two daughters; eight sisters; two brothers; two grandsons; and a host of other
relatives and friends. Al s hobbies included flying, golf, fishing, music, reading and
motorcycling. Al was an active member of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association and the Pan
American Golf Association.
Al will be buried, with full military honors, on Monday, July 3, 2006, at Fort Bliss National
Cemetery, El Paso (Fort Bliss), Texas.
