More detail on this person: RONALD A. GISCHEL Ronald Arthur Gischel, a Navy commander and Command Chaplain on the USS L.Y. SPEAR in Norfolk, died of a heart attack, at home, June 21, 1993. Commander Gischel was 47. Commander Gischel was born in Louisville, Ky. He earned a bachelor of science degree from Georgetown College at Georgetown, Ky., and a master's of divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Gischel served in the Army as a flight officer. He flew missions in Vietnam and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Bronze Star with Oak Leaf. Other awards include the Navy Commendation Medal, Coast Guard Commendation Medal and Navy Achievement Medal. Survivors include his wife, Carlene Sturgill Gischel; two daughters, Erika Lynn Mitchell of Richmond and Amanda Lea Gischel; and his parents, Robert William Gischel and Norma Jean Miller Gischel of Chesapeake; and a sister, Deborah Sue Lawrence. Funeral services will be held at David Adams Memorial Chapel, Norfolk Naval Station, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 26, 1993. Friends and relatives may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Twiford Funeral Home, 929 Battlefield Blvd. South, Chesapeake, Va. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the ''Retired Officer's Association Scholarship Fund,'' Alexandria, Va., in the name of Commander Gischel.
