Thomas Greene, Jr., age 70, of Savannah, Georgia,
and formerly Columbus, GA, passed away
Tuesday, December 23, 2014. He was born October
27, 1944 in Savannah to the late Reverend Joseph
Thomas Greene, Sr. and Mrs. Jimmie Lee Greene
(Patrick). Tom is a member of Woodland Baptist
Church in Savannah, Georgia. Tom graduated in
1962 from Groves High School. After graduating
from Furman University as a Distinguished Military
Graduate, he was commissioned in the U.S. Army
in 1966 and became a Huey gunship helicopter
pilot. Serving in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive
of 1967-68, then Captain Greene was awarded the
Distinguished Flying Cross, 2 Bronze Star medals
and 37 Air Medals with the V-Device for Valor.
Following military service, Mr. Greene continued
public service for over 30 years as an Engineering
Psychologist with the Department of Defense.
Survivors include his son, U.S. Army LTC Thomas
David Greene; daughter, Mrs. Kelly Erin Leighton
(Greene) and her husband Sean James Leighton;
11-month old grandson, Connor David Leighton.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, December
28, 2014 at 3:00 pm at Woodlawn Baptist Church
with Rev. Gary Johnson and Rev. Daryl Bailey
officiating. The family will receive friends at
the Church from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm. Interment
will occur in Arlington National Cemetery in the
spring.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate
