More detail on this person: Mr. Donald Dexter Greene, Jr., of Winston Salem, died Saturday, February 3, 2018. He was 69 years old. Born on December 12, 1948 in York, NE to Donald Sr. and Ruth Greene, he served in the United States Army under active Vietnam conflict in 1969, where he was a Huey Helicopter Medical Transport Pilot and served with the EMU Australian-American assault force. He was awarded a Purple Heart, and two Bronze Service Stars, as well as Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960- Device and Army Aviator Badge. He worked with the Veteran's Affairs Office as a benefits coordinator in Winston Salem until retirement in 2004. He was an avid car lover, and had an array of different cars throughout the years. Dexter leaves behind his devoted wife, Becke, and beloved twin daughters, Megan Greene (Justin Bower) of Winston Salem, and Caitlin Greene (Fred Bell), of Winston Salem, and granddaughters Olivia Bell and Lyla Bower, whom he adored. He also leaves behind several dear friends that were just as important as family. A funeral service will be conducted in his honor 10:00 AM, Thursday February 8, 2018, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, officiated by Rev. Doug Klein. The family will receive friends from 8:45 AM to 9:45 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow 1:00 PM at Salisbury National Cemetery. Full military honors will be provided by the Clemmons VFW Memorial Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that those who wish to honor Dex may do so by donating to support the military branch of service or Veteran's Organization of their choice.
