More detail on this person: OCALA -- Tom Goforth, deputy director of Emergency Management and
a key leader in guiding the county through back-to-back hurricanes in 2004 and 2005, died Friday of
a heart attack at Munroe Regional Medical Center.
Goforth was 62.
Described as a dedicated, hard working employee with compassion to help people, Goforth had two
other careers before retiring to Marion County in 1996.
From 1968 to 1973, Goforth was a U.S. Army helicopter pilot serving in Vietnam where he was awarded
the Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars and Air Medal with seven Oak Leaf clusters.
He also flew in the Oklahoma Army National Guard.
Visitation will be at Hiers Funeral Home, 910 S. E. Silver Springs Blvd., from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on
Tuesday. Funeral services will be held the following day at 11 a.m. at Countryside Presbyterian
Church, 7768 S.W. State Road 200.
