Goodroe III 1946-2009 MORGAN COUNTY, Tenn. - Charles Thomas Goodroe III, 62, died on June 14, 2009, surrounded by family at home in Morgan County, Tenn. He was born in 1946, in Circleville, Ohio, the son of Charles and Betty Goodroe. He was a 22-year veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a pilot of fixed-wing and rotocraft. During two tours of duty in Vietnam he was awarded the Purple Heart, and twice awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the military's highest honor for a pilot. He married Carol Wilder on July 4, 1971, a Galesburg High School graduate while she was attending Arizona State University. Surviving are his wife; two children: Christopher Goodroe, Manchester, Tenn., and Mrs. Edward (Tracy) Nichols of Fort Carson, Colo.; (Edward is currently serving in Iraq); and grandchildren, Mathew, Nathan and Sarah. Also surviving is a brother, David and Bernadette of Washington state; sister, Melissa Hoffman and husband Sigmar of Utah; and mother and father-in-law, Karin and Dean Brodie of Galesburg. He was a dedicated member of Morgan County Humane Society. Funeral service was held at Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg, Tenn. Military rites and interment were performed at Circleville, Ohio.
