More detail on this person: Major Harry Gawkowski, 75, Retired Army Combat pilot, passed suddenly on September 4, 2017 at his home in Wellington, Florida, and is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Spring Page Gawkowski, his loving daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Anthony Green, and his surviving sister, Paulette Kergosien. Major Gawkowski was highly decorated in 3 Vietnam Combat tours, flying with the elite 68th Assault Helicopter Company in 1967/1968: 3 Distinguished Flying Crosses, 2 Bronze Stars, 2 Purple Hearts, 2 Meritorious Service Medals, 51 Air Medals, 2 Vietnam Service Medals, 2 Valorous Unit Awards, 2 Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Crosses with Palm, a National Defense Service Medal, an Armed Forces Reserve Medal, and Master Army Aviator Badge. Post-military, Major Gawkowski, became the Director of Operations and the Chief Pilot, flying helicopters on the AUTEC Naval Base in the Bahamas for 37 years. He was the Recipient of the NBAA Pilot Safety Award for over 10,000 Accident Free Hours. His passion was deep sea fishing and quality time with family. Arlington National Cemetery will be his final resting place: date of burial to be announced by Arlington at a later date. Published in The Palm Beach Post on Jan. 5, 2018
