More detail on this person: MONROE, La. (KNOE) - A decorated veteran of the U.S. Army and local veteran activist has passed away. Ronnie Dale Griggs passed away on August 26, 2019, at the age of 76. Griggs was born in 1943 and served in the military from 1961 to 1981, according to his obituary. Griggs was active in the community, working to help and improve veteran-related programs and entities, like raising money for the Chennault Aviation and Military Museum. He's a Vietnam veteran who served two tours. KNOE did several interviews with Griggs, including this one in which he talked about receiving four Purple Hearts, a decoration awarded to those wounded or killed while serving in the U.S. military. "I got shot down four times and I was awarded a Purple Heart for each time. I was decorated for Valor eleven times," Griggs told KNOE in 2018 when we asked about his military decorations. Visitation for Griggs will be held Thursday from 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe. A private family funeral will be held on Friday.
