More detail on this person: Lt. Col. Francis Paul Gallagher, USAF Retired passed away Thursday, January 27, 2022 at home with his family by his side. A friend to many, he was a long-term Delaware resident, a patriotic war hero, and a devoted family man. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Gallagher and Annabelle Hackett. He is survived by his lovely and devoted wife, Janice Gallagher (the love of his life) and of 55 years of marriage; their daughter, Jillian of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; and two grandsons, Preston and Logan. He is also survived by brothers, Edward, Kevin, Denis Gallagher; and sister, Ann Denvir. Paul was a lifelong military man and a decorated veteran. He retired as a Lt. Colonel in the United States Air Force having served in Vietnam and Operation Desert Storm and Desert Shield and he was awarded the DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSS. In the course of his military tenure, he piloted an array of aircraft, to include the T-38 Talon (Trainer), B-52 Stratofortress (Bomber), HH-43 Husky (Search and Rescue Helicopter) and the C-5 Galaxy (Transport). In his second career, Paul retired from United Airlines, as a Boeing 777 Captain. He was a devoted husband, father, and Pop-Pop whose passion was family, airplanes, and history! He loved telling stories to his family and friends. He was truly a kind and humble man who was loved by everyone. Our family would like to thank all the nurses, aides, and everyone that has supported and helped during his courageous battle with prolonged illness. He truly had angels surrounding him. A viewing will be held at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus Street, Dover, Delaware on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at 5-7 p.m. A mass service will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 South State Street, Dover, Delaware on Friday, February 18, 2022 at 11 a.m. The interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The USO and or The Fisher House for Families of the Fallen.
