More detail on this person: Gilhooley, John F. In loving memory of our John F. Gilhooley who passed away on Jan. 23, 2009, in Lakewood, CA, where he had lived for the past 28 years. Born Nov., 16, 1947 to John J. Gilhooley and Rosemary Moran Gilhooley in Brooklyn, NY, he moved to San Fernando Valley, then to Costa Mesa, before moving to Lakewood. He is survived by his loving family, wife Susan; sons, Kevin J. and Sean P.; daughter, Megan (Casey) Dimmitt; sisters, Patricia Alpert, Geraldine Warkentine, and Joanne Masella; many neices and nephews, and cousins who will all miss his stories and Irish wit. John graduated from Costa Mesa High School and then joined the U.S. Navy. He served on the ship USS Westchester County, and for many years belonged to the "Mobile Riverine Force Association" and the "USS Westchester County LST 1167 Association" and attended many of their annual reunions around the country. John was an avid supporter of the Disabled American Veterans and many Vietnam Veteran causes. He was well-read in military and American history. He proudly worked for California State University at Long Beach for 19 years in Plant Operations before his retirement in 2004. We love you John, miss you terribly, and as a true Irish son, "may God hold you in the hollow of his hand."
