More detail on this person: Loyd R. Ganey, Sr.,
(85), longtime resident of Pensacola and
Cantonment, departed this life on September 06,
2014. Loyd was born in Nauvoo, Alabama to
Washington and Gay Pearl Ganey. Loyd was
preceded in death by his parents; brother, George;
sisters, Ruby, Ethel, Gladys, and Dean.
Loyd is survived by his loving wife Dorothy J.
Ganey who was his sweetheart and companion,
and together lived a very memorable marriage for
64 years. Other survivors include - son, Loyd R.
Jr. (Gerlinde); son, Terry L. Ganey; daughter,
Teresa A. Tatum (Mark); son, Alan C. Ganey (Kris);
eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren;
sister, Verni Fields; and several nephews and
nieces.
Loyd joined the Army at a very early age and
served for 23 years throughout the world; to
include, Korea and Vietnam. He dearly loved his
time with the Special Forces and as an aviator
flying all types of helicopters and fixed wing
aircraft. He received many commendations; to
include, the Air Medal with 16 Oak Leave Clusters
and the Bronze Star.
Loyd received his college degree in business from
University of South Florida. Loyd and Dorothy were
real-estate brokers owning and operating Advanced
Realty Concepts for 15 years. Loyd was a servant
and deacon of the Gateway Church of Christ. After
retiring, Loyd put into full gear his love of
gardening, RV'ing, and fishing. Then for twelve
years, Loyd traveled with his 'best catch' from
Florida to Alaska spending summers reeling in big
sockeye red salmon.
Loyd will be greatly missed by his family and
friends and all those whose lives he touched and
who were endeared to his caring and loving spirit.
The family would like to thank the supportive
friends, neighbors, and professional caregivers
(Dr. Zeiman, Dr. Chang, Dr. Roark, the Naval
Hospital staff and personnel, and the wonderful
people of Covenant Hospice) who gave their care
and hearts for the great care of Loyd.
A celebration memorial of Loyd's life will be held
on Friday September 12 at 10:00AM at Waters &
Hibbert Funeral Home Chapel, 124 W. Gregory St.
Pensacola, FL 32501. A time of Visitation will
precede the memorial at 09:30AM. Interment will
follow at 11:00AM with full military honors at
Barrancas National Cemetery Naval Air Station, 1
Cemetery Road Pensacola, FL.
