More detail on this person: Karl Eugene Gilbert, Feb. 1, 1947-Dec. 4, 2010 Karl Eugene Gilbert, 63, a resident of Akron, Ohio, for many years, died early Saturday morning, Dec. 4, 2010, in Firelands Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. He was born Feb. 1, 1947, in Sandusky, the son of Sylvester K. and Eleanor M. (Simon) Gilbert. Karl was a veteran of the U. S. Army. He was employed for many years for Summit Management Co. of Akron, Ohio, and was a member of the West Hill Baptist Church. Karl was active in the big brothers in Akron and took much joy in his hobby of collecting. He was well loved his many family and friends. He is survived by his five sisters, Evelyn (Jim) Baum of Castalia, Margaret Morehart and Odessa Gilbert of Tiffin, Edna (Scotty) McCollach of Anchorage, Alaska, and Irene Fisher of Berkley, W.Va., and two brothers, August (Delores) Gilbert and Jimmy Gilbert, both of Sandusky. He was preceded in death by his parents. Friends will be received at 10 a.m. Tuesday, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Wally Gilbert will officiate. Burial will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio. Contributions, if desired, may be made to the St. Jude Children Research Hospital or to the Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital.
