More detail on this person: Michael D. George CA United States GEORGE, Michael D. Michael passed away peacefully in his home in Galt on April 16, 2009, after a brave battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Cheryl, daughter Bonnie and her husband Will, daughter Kim, stepdaughter Michelle and her husband Chris, stepson Rick, stepson Frank and his wife Tina, sister Rachael and her husband Scott, brother Aaron, brother Eric and his wife Sue. He is also survived by three grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren. Michael was born December 23, 1946, in Sacramento. He graduated from Hiram Johnson High School in 1964. Michael enlisted in the Army in 1968 and served two tours. He was in the First Air Cavalry and became a helicopter pilot in Vietnam where he earned many medals and commendations. Among them are the Purple Heart, two Air Medals, two Distinguished Flying Crosses, and two Bronze Stars. Michael came home to Sacramento and began his fire service career as a Dispatcher with the Florin Fire District in 1972. He became a Firefighter in 1977, an Engineer in 1979, and was promoted to Fire Captain in 1983. He retired in March 2008 from Station 51, Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District. Michael enjoyed motorcycle riding, racketball, golf, fast cars, music, and his family. Michael was a man of honor, treated others with respect, and was devoted to his duties as a firefighter. A "Celebration of Life" ceremony is planned at Station 51, 8210 Meadowhaven, Sacramento, Calif., at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 25. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fire Fighters Burn Institute, 3823 V Street Ste. #4, Sacramento, CA 95817.
