More detail on this person: Jackie Goodwin Jackie "Jack" Lamar Goodwin, 65, of Douglasville, Ga. died Oct. 7, 2007. Born on Jan. 11, 1942, in Canton, Ga., he was the son of the late Elton Elzie and Dora Aline Bottoms Goodwin. Mr. Goodwin was a 1960 graduate of Cherokee High School. While working in Atlanta in the early 1960s, he met and married the former Lorene Tipton of Blue Ridge. In April 1966, Mr. Goodwin was drafted into the Army. After basic training, he was selected for officer candidate school and then he attended helicopter flight school in Fort Wolters, Texas - a career path that he followed for all 29 years in the Army. After training, he was ordered to Vietnam, where he served as a helicopter pilot with the 101st Airborne Division. He finished his flying career as a command pilot with over 10,000 rotary and fixed wing flight hours. Mr. Goodwin then worked for the Georgia Department of Veteran Affairs. He managed the VA office in Cartersville for eight years, being responsible for over 23,000 veterans, before finally retiring in 2006. Survivors include his wife of 44 years Lorene; son Greg Goodwin of Marietta, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law Teresa and Mark Mackin of Douglasville; sister Betty Robson of Marble Hill; and granddaughters Sydney Lorene Mackin and Carlin Laura Mackin. Funeral services were held Oct. 10 in the Rosehaven chapel with the Rev. Jeff Hawkins officiating. Interment followed at Rosehaven cemetery with full military honors.
